As I have now reached my mid 80s, perhaps a brief outline of my life would be appropriate ... It will be concise!
Early Life and Career I, Margaret Mary Walshe, born 4 September, 1931, the first child to Vera (née Elizabeth Veronica Hester) and James O'Malley Walshe of Yarrawonga, Victoria, Australia. I attended the Mercy Convent, Yarrawonga; most of my schooling was during & immediately following WW11 with the usual wartime restrictions. In the late 1940s, I discovered the bright lights of Melbourne, undertaking General Nursing, Midwifery and Infant Welfare qualifications. Followed by further education at the College of Nursing Australia, Operating Theatre Management & Teaching Diploma and Community Health resulting in a Fellow of the College of Nursing, Australia.
My career in nursing took me to Tasmania & parts of Victoria in various roles culminating in 1981 as Regional Nursing Advisor, with the Health Department, Maternal & Child Health. Later Health & Community Services mainly covering Goulburn & North Eastern Victoria, with the regional office in Benalla. After almost 14 years as a Public Servant I retired; 2 months later I accepted a position as a Consultant! Limited funding was available in the Hume region, Victoria to address liaison between the various Hospital based Home Care Nurses & the Municipal HACC (Home and Community Care) employees, working at various times with the same patients/clients. Although only partly successful in the time available, it was rewarding to later see the project accomplished.
